Our Story.

The vineyard takes its name from the Faniani family, who were living in the Butte County area of California by the 1860s after immigrating from Switzerland and Italy. Naming the vineyard after them is a tribute to their pioneer spirit and the values of hard work, perseverance, and connection to the land that have been passed down through generations.

  • In September 2012, land for Faniani Vineyards was purchased. After analyzing 21 soil pits and consulting with an expert team of vineyard professionals, a vineyard development plan was set into motion.

The site benefits from Coombsville’s unique caldera terroir, characterized primarily by Coombs gravelly loam soil and supplemented by subsoil layers of volcanic and diatomaceous earth, which enhance the complexity and minerality characteristics of the grapes.

Coombsville has unique cooler microclimates because of its proximity to San Pablo Bay. The early morning fog, afternoon breezes, warm days and cool nights create a longer growing season. The combination of the volcanic soils and a cooler climate makes our grapes distinctive, with complex flavors and refined balance.

  • In 2016, Faniani Vineyards achieved a significant milestone when its first harvest was delivered to Bell Wine Cellars. This marked the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between our vineyard and Bell Wine Cellars, which has remained strong ever since.

In 2019, Faniani Vineyards achieved its first single vineyard designated vintage from Bell Wine Cellars, a recognition that continues. Previous valued winery partnerships including Raymond Vineyards and Cornerstone Cellars.

  • Today, Faniani Vineyards continues to be farmed with long term vision and attention to each season. Every growing season is different and unpredictable, and farming the land is a constant reminder of the importance of adaptability and appreciation for the rhythms of the vineyard.
